![]() ![]() Toya has a tough guy exterior but deep down cares about the people closest to him. The supporting cast is full and rich but the two most important characters to mention are Toya, Sakura’s older teen brother, and Yukito, her brother’s best friend. Cardcaptor Sakura is a series where the characters emotions and relationships take precedence over any action. It’s an extremely adorable series and for every intense action scene, like Sakura fighting off a giant dragon conjured from her friend’s imagination, there’s three adorable scenes with her doing low stakes activities like performing in a play or baking a cake. She’s joined by magical boy/rival turned love interest Syaoran Li, her best friend Tomoyo, and mystical guardian beast of the Clow Cards/cute animal companion Kero. Each card she captures gives her new magical powers and she isn’t alone. The original series tells the story of young Sakura Kinomoto and her journey to retrieve the mystical Clow Cards in order to prevent a great catastrophe befalling the world. I didn’t know this at the time but Cardcaptors was an English reworking of the Japanese kids series Cardcaptor Sakura, originally released as a manga by the all-women artist group Clamp. This was the show that made me realize it was okay to like men.ĭespite what the oddly alluring narrator voice told me, I wasn’t prepared. I had no idea that this would be the show that, despite some of the heaviest censorship and edits ever seen in anime, would introduce me to queer characters for the first time. I had no idea then how much of an effect it would have on my life. The Voice is one of the group of cards transformed in Episode 53 during Sakura's frantic wave of transformations. That was, of course, my journey into discovering Cardcaptors. After its capture, Tomoyo's voice returns to her. Sakura seals it after it's initial attempts to flee are prevented thanks to Syaoran. In order to capture The Voice and return Tomoyo's voice, Sakura lures it by summoning The Song card which sings one of Tomoyo's songs from memory. Later at night Sakura tells Kero what happened and he explains that The Voice card likes Tomoyo's voice and stole it. Tomoyo tells her voicelessly that she can't speak. Sakura enters the music room and sees what happened. Tomoyo falls on the floor and the Music Teacher notices and asked her what's wrong. The Voice card appears and rushes into the room and steals Tomoyo's voice. The card then resolves to take her voice.Īfter cheer-leading practice one day, Sakura decides to go and listen to Tomoyo during her singing practice. Tomoyo delights her friends with her serene and beautiful singing voice. It is only when Tomoyo starts singing does it takes an interest. Tomoyo becomes victim to The Voice's thievery in Episode 37. One sunny spring day, Sakura, Tomoyo and their friends are sat under a blooming cherry blossom tree. Usually, The Voice is content with listening to people, but if it hears a particular voice that it likes, it is capable of stealing it, rendering that person completely mute. Voice Magic: The Voice is a mischievous card that is able to steal people's voices. It is also somewhat greedy, since in order to deliberately prevent the recovery of a lost voice it has stolen, Voice hides where it is very difficult to find. ![]() Like The Song card, it too has a love of beautiful singing. The Voice is shy and timid and prone to give flight when given to confrontation. It wears a rather long dress, and what appears to be a ruff collar and green brooch around its neck. Whether the wings are a part of its dress or are in fact something else, is unknown. It's physical manifestation appears as a young, pink-colored girl with long, wavy hair and wing-like ears and wings for arms as well similar to that of a Harpy. ![]()
